As a member of the IHE Eye Care Planning Committee, Sophrona is
working toward inclusion of a patient portal actor role within the IHE
Framework. Unfortunately, there is no current definition or role
defined for patient portals within the IHE Framework today. The
historic 'creation of a patient' event has taken place in the practice
management system during patient registration. The advent of
online patient registration, independent from a scheduler interacting with the practice management system has created the need
to review the existing framework. Sophrona is pleased to be part
of this process and to be defining the standards of the future.
Through our work, we hope patient portals will gain their own
independent actor status. It is our hope to participate in the
AAO's 2009
IHE Eye Care Showcase.
