Ophthalmology Patient Portal and Online Communication Editorial

Giving That Makes Cents

November 1, 2011

It is fitting that we consider our accomplishments with gratitude in the month of Thanksgiving. Sophrona has continued to grow dynamically in what has been a troubled time for many. I am thankful to our team, clients, and business partners for Sophrona’s success on so many levels. In particular, I am proud of the launch of Sophrona’s Giving Program, a program aimed at doing good while also inviting patients to use our portal technologies more frequently.

From its inception, I wanted Sophrona to emulate something I had admired about Target Corporation while I was working there – a strategy tying a customer incentive with doing good in the community. Target’s community giving program encourages consumers to shop by promising that a percentage of purchases would go to benefit a local school of the consumer’s choice. This is something I have long desired to incorporate into Sophrona’s business model.

You may have read about the launch of the Sophrona Giving Program in a recent press release, and if not I would invite you to do so. In essence, we have selected a set of initial non-profit partners who work in the field of eye health whether doing research or in serving the needs of those with impaired vision. An example of this is MIT’s Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. We have committed to giving to these organizations and are beginning to invite our clients to join with us in giving as well. At the same time, we promote the program to patients within our patient portal web pages and encourage further portal use with the promise of additional giving. This reinforces a key Sophrona goal, to drive practice ROI with more patient traffic while also creating positive buzz about the practice in the minds of patients and about Sophrona in the ophthalmology industry.

I am so very thankful for our client partners and the non-profits that have helped us launch the Sophrona Giving Program. I am delighted that we have found a way to do good while encouraging patients to do more online. The Sophrona Giving Program makes us all winners. Thank you!
